"Emma Wilson Emery (1885-1970) spent her childhood in the Big Thicket of southeast Texas. She later lived in Nacogdoches, Tex., and worked as typesetter for the Daily Plaindealer. She graduated from nursing school at Shreveport, La., in 1911 and later became the first poet laureate of Louisiana between 1942 and 1970."--Louisiana State University
