Summary
Fifty years and more in politics has given Stephen Young a giant repertoire of ""tales."" Campaign battles, wrangles and rhetoric on the Senate floor, behind-the-scenes Party maneuvering, letters to and from constituents, social and office life and personalities in Washington, ""appreciation days"" and agonizing reappraisals are topics about which many politicians - and their wives - have written, and so Senator Young. But Young's opus has a number of ingratiating qualities that mark it for special notice whether one agrees with his political philosophies or not. His anecdotes are forthright, his comments pertinent and often downright witty, and his sincerity well-high unassailable. Young, the incumbent who would have been challenged by Astronaut John Glenn had he been able to complete the recent campaign, has penetrated deep into the political maze and brought out some souvenirs many Americans will be happy to study, politics having the compelling attraction for them that it does.
