Summary
An itinerant preacher named Lucius Rumsey arrives in Blair, Texas, looking for someone to build him a twelve foot wooden cross that he can take on a coast-to-coast evangelical crusade. He finds the people in town somewhat suspicious, fearful and even hostile, but the reason becomes clear when he discovers the town has been shaken by two grisly murders in four days. Rumsey soon finds a carpenter, Stewart Bright, who agrees to build him the cross, and a friendship springs up between the two. The day Rumsey is to leave town, he and Bright, make a gruesome discovery, which begins a nightmare of terror for both families
