Summary
Cornelia Sherry, famed women's rights activist and best selling author, is found nude and in a state of shock kneeling over the body of her lover, a steak knife in her hand. Attorney Harlan Cole and his investigator, Fausto Molano, set out to unravel the mysterious path of the dead man, Armand Revere, who had come out of nowhere to live on his charm and physical attraction. Along the way they unearth suspect after suspect, not the least of whom is Durwood Isbell, Cornelia's husband, whose seeming indulgence toward his wife's infidelity hides his own dark secret. Even the district attorney's assistant and the State Department have their secret reasons for wanting the slain man's background kept from public knowledge
